Review: Putumayo Kids' Dreamland

This collection of lullabies and songs from around the world provides an excellent assortment of songs for children. Soothing and mellow in its tempo and lyrics (predominantly non-English), Putumayo invites listeners to travel through Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia on an auditory journey through lulling melodies and relaxing tunes. The opening track, “Naima” features Benin’s Angélique Kidjo on vocals and guitarist Carlos Santana in a melding of cultures. South African songstress Sibongile Khumalo summons the rich vocal stylings of the region on “Thula Mama.” And the haunting sounds of Tatar and Russia end the collection with Zulya’s “Lullaby.” This anthology is sure to relax and soothe at naptime, bedtime, or anytime in between.
